Origami & geometric proofs
We read the book, A Thousand Paper Cranes in class and made an origami piece inspired by the book. In chapter 8, Sadako’s mother gave her a silk kimono with cherry blossoms on it. In Japan, the cherry blossom represents the fragility and the beauty of life. It's a reminder that life is almost overwhelmingly beautiful but that it is also tragically short. The story of Sadako reflected the same theme of the cherry blossom so we decided that for our origami piece, we were going to create a cherry blossom. We found a couple resources online and modified them to make it unique and easier to teach elementary schoolers how to make it. Attached are the instructions on how to make a cherry blossom along with a model I created.
Collaboration
Back pack design project
In our STEAM class with Mr. Sevilla, we practiced the process of designing a product and working in groups. For this particular project, we were numbered off into groups and began thinking about the design of backpacks. Our first step was to empathize and understand what the purpose of backpacks are and how people use them. The second step we took was to define the problems and things we didn't like about our backpacks. We pulled from personal experiences and previous situations we've been in when the design of the backpack didn't work. We focused on all the things we did not like, which lead us into the next part, which was ideate. After we created a list of all the problems and concerns we had, we started to think about how we could solve those problems. In the picture on the left below, you can see all of our work through the ideation and defining phase. After the ideation phase, the next step is to test than revise. However, we were in a slight rush because we did this whole design process in 2 days which usually takes about 2 weeks. After you test and revise then you prototype and create a functioning model. For our project, we created a sketch of our backpack design that included all of it's features. Then each group went up in front of the class and presented their designs. There are images below to show our group's work.
FOodtopia
The Foodtopia project was a cross between three classes. For the humanities portion we started by researching different foods throughout history and how the food industry changed through agriculture. We then made videos about specific topics we researched in chemistry. My group and I studied different eating lifestyles such as vegetarian and vegan and if it was possible to be as healthy and strong as an omnivore. Below is all of our pre production work we completed before filming.

Cubism art
In Ms.Vee’s Math 2 class we completed the Geometric Cubism Art project for Exhibition. For this unit we first studied about cubism art and famous artists such as Picasso. We then created our own cubist art piece. We chose an image that represented us then selected a recycled canvas to paint on. Our art pieces were then displayed throughout our exhibition.
Cubism was one of the most influential visual art styles of the early twentieth century. It was created by Pablo Picasso (Spanish, 1881–1973) and Georges Braque (French, 1882–1963) in Paris between 1907 and 1914.
Guernica, 1937 by Pablo Picasso
In my creative piece I designed a unique image of a butterfly. I chose to make my design more realistic than typical cubism art. I chose the colors pink and blue to represent nature and being outdoors on a lovely Spring day and convey positivity and happiness through my piece. The intention of this project was to expose us to a specific style of art and help us gain an understanding of how math and art relate to each other and how math can be used in art.
