Inonic Bonds
In class we did the activity, Bonding Basics, which helped us gain familiarity with Ionic Bonding. We first had to fill out a chart with the information of certain elements. We had to find the number of protons, number of electrons, number of valence electrons and the oxidation number. After the chart was complete we had to complete a series of steps to find the bonds. The first step was to write the symbol for each element. The second step was to draw out the Lewis Structure for each element. The third step was to draw arrows to show the transfer of electrons from one element to another. The fourth step was to show the new placement of the electrons in the compound. The fifth step was to determine the charge for each ion and write the formula. The sixth and final step was to the chemical formula of the compound. We completed this process multiple times for every element.
